Each year thousands of vehicles are stolen in Britain -
one vehicle every few seconds.
The car thief's work is often made easy with car doors
left unlocked and even keys in the ignition.
Most cars are stolen by amateurs who see an easy target
and act on the spur of the moment. Basic sensible precautions can deter the
opportunist thief.
NEVER leave the keys inside the unattended car,
even if you are only leaving it to run a quick errand.
ALWAYS lock the car when you leave it.
DO NOT attach tags or labels
with your name and address to the keys.
AVOID leaving the car unattended in public car
parks for long periods of time.
PARK in busy well-lit areas at night. Thieves don't
like working where they are likely to be seen.
REMOVE mobile phones, radios and anything of value
from the car. If it has to be left, put it in the boot out of sight.
NEVER leave vehicle documents in the car.
