Neighbourhood Watch Street Signs
If
Neighbourhood Watch is to be a deterrent then it must be visible - the
criminal should know where the Neighbourhood Watch Scheme is, otherwise he/she
cannot decide to avoid it.
The best way of marking a scheme is by using Neighbourhood
Watch Street signs. These carry the distinctive "logo" in black and yellow and
are about 15" x 12" in size, made from sturdy plastic or aluminium and printed
to a good quality.
The erection of watch street signs is the responsibility of
the scheme members and should be placed on County or Parish Council lamp
columns at a height of 2.5 metres from the ground and facing the approaching
traffic. You will have received information in your start up pack on correct
positioning of signs. If you are still unsure please contact your Police
Community Contact Officer or Community Beat Manager.
Signs must be of the type supplied by Cambridgeshire
Constabulary to Watch Schemes. Crime Prevention Panels may service the supply
of signs on behalf of the Constabulary.
Your scheme is responsible for purchasing the signs but to
satisfy insurance requirements, the signs will remain the property of the
Constabulary. If a scheme ceases to function the signs are to be removed and
returned to the Constabulary.
Co-ordinators should make frequent checks of signs to ensure
that the fittings are secure and the sign is not damaged and is in good
condition. Damage to signs should be reported to the Sector Community Contact
Officer or Area Administrator if you have one.
